Kalilang in America

Salam rukano!

The Maranaos in America for Peace, Integration & Advancement will be holding its launching celebration and induction of officers on Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the Cabrini Villas Social Hall in Burbank, California. We would like to invite you to join us on this special occasion.

Maranaos in America for Peace, Integration & Advancement was formed to help build lasting relationships among the American Maranao community and work for their overall advancement through social/cultural activities, educational seminars, job placement, networking, and outreach. The organization is primarily focused on individuals/families who have come to America to establish or re-establish that sense of community for themselves. These goals can only be achieved by the continued support of our cooperating members, generous sponsors and caring friends.

May we ask for your support by becoming a member, celebrating with us and/or placing an advertisement in our 2007 launching program. The program will be distributed to all members and other related American Filipino organizations not only in California but also in other states as well.

Thank you for making our event a success!

  1. Congratulations to MAPIA on its launching celebration and induction of officers. MAPIA'S vision is noble. Creating a community away from home and re-establishing the semblance of Ranao community in mainland US is no easy task.

The American way of life is diverse and way different from what we are accustomed to. Adjusting to mainstream America may be difficult, yet Fun! Life here is relatively easy.

Gizmos and gadgets are all over, right there at our fingetips. Yet there is also a downside to this . . . . While we enjoy the amenities provided by our new environment, we tend to forget the basic values taught us by our parents back home.

If veering away from basic values because of the lure of commercialism can happen to us, how much more for our children? If this can happen to us, whose belief and value system are well grounded and cemented before we left philippine shores, how much more for our children who either grew up here or were born here?

The western society can be permissive and liberal, it's system is different from most that we are exposed to, not to mention peer pressure and other challenges.

How then do we counter this? How can we prevent our children from being engulfed by what is "commercialized" America? Just a thought . . . .. maybe it would help, even just a bit, if we create programs for our kids that will better enhance their appreciation and awareness of our Maranao culture. If we educate our own kids and emphasize to them why we do things in certain manner and fashion.

As parents, it is our moral obligation to rear our child the Right Way and to make sure that they follow the Right Path.

If Peace, Integration and Advancement are our core values, then I believe, it is just but apt and proper to start within our own homes, within our very own family.

As the great chinese philosopher Confucius once said: "IF THERE IS RIGHT IN THE SOUL, THERE IS BEAUTY IN THE PERSON; IF THERE IS BEAUTY IN THE PERSON, THERE IS HARMONY IN THE HOME; IF THERE IS HARMONY IN THE HOME, THERE IS ORDER IN THE NATION; IF THERE IS ORDER IN THE NATION, THEN THERE WILL BE PEACE IN THE WORLD."

Salaam and again Congratulations More Success!
